Big turn radius

Hi

After i swaped my front end for a mustang 65 on my 60 falcon, i`ve lost alot of turnradius. Now i have to take it in two stages some times. And that is frustrating in shoppingmal`s and stuff. Btw i have discbrakes from 65 mustang too and kept the orginal steeringarms from the falcon.
What can i do to fix this

I know exactly how you feel.

My '62 Falcon has the exact same turning radius problem,
plus you have to really crank the wheel to get it to turn from a dead stop.

Some have told me that it's normal with all that weight in front (I have a 600lb. 460/C6/narrowed 9", but there's got to be something that can be done about it --- at least the hard to turn from a dead stop thing.

I'm looking into a power rack & pinion (again) -- talked myself out of it last time. I plan to wear the junkyards out in the next few days to find an answer.

Thanks,

Jim

Jim, did I read correctly that you have a 460-powered '62?! Pictures and more information please! It's not by chance a yellow one that has been in some magazines in the past by chance, is it?

Hank -

I have a yellow '63 Ford Econoline PU that's a strange one;
has a Chevy 514/turbo 400/narrowed 9". The motor is behind the cab and partially in the bed!

It's going to be my tow vehicle, for the car trailer.

My Falcon is blue, and still a work in progress.

Here's what it looked like 1 1/2 years ago:

I've made a lot of changes since then; wiring harness, original Falcon bucket seats & rear seat (it was a trick to cut the rear seat springs to cover the tubs) and many other things --- I still have a list a mile long to do.

Thanks,

Jim

Not sure if I will help. But, when I swapped the granada spindles onto my '65 Ranchero, I had to grind of some tabs on my spindles that prevented me from having any radius also!

Jim, I just saw your post and checked out your cars. Holy ! They are nice!

I don't know which one I like better. I bet that Econoline is awesome with the mid-engine weight distribution, or does it get squirrely? I think you should create a bed that tapers up to the top of the tailgate to create a "wing" of sorts, which is only visible if you look into the cab. It would really plant the rear end.

That blue '62 is a real sleeper at first I bet. Do you have more pictures showing the tubbing? Awesome rides Jim.
