what\'s a gasser?
WHat defines a gasser hot rod? and why do they call it that? Since installing my new springs on my 62 I've gotten a lot of comments that it looks like 'an old gasser' because it sits so high.

Gassers were an NHRA class class in the late 50's through the 70's. Early on, it consisted of cars from the 40's and 50's. Straight axles were used up front as it was believed that the nose high attitude of the cars helped weight distribution shift to the rear on takeoff. I'd recommend www.gassermadness.com for a great introduction and loads of cool pics.

thats a great site . Stone woods & Cook wild willy borsh. Flaming burnouts they did some wild stuff in the past.
