Tire size and back spacing

Hey, Need some info on tire size and rim backspacing on my 65 Falcon, I'm wanting to run a 275/50/15 on a 15X8 Rim I wanted to know if it would fit with the springs in the stock location or will I need to run the cites spring kit. If so what rim back spacing would I need to run them w/o cutting the 8" rear.

Nope. Biggest choice will be a 235/60/15. Use a rim with a 4.5" backspace and be prepared to roll the fender lips.

a 235/70 15 will just fit if its similar to that of a 65 comet.

I put 245/60/15's under my Falcon Sprint on a 15X8 wheel with 5.25" of backspacing and it fit's great.

Open what style wheel are you running? I have a pair of 15x3.5 weld draglites for the front, but summit only list 15x7 and 15x8 with 3.5,4.5, and 5.5 backspacing. i think im going to run the 235/60/15. if any one else can help with what backspacing im going to need it would be very helpful.

Thanks Shawn

Before I narrowed the rear on my '65, I ran a 15x7 with 4.25" backspace. Fit fine, but had to roll the fender lips just a little. The extra .25" would have made a big difference.

We use Pantera wheels. 15X7 front w/4.25 backspacing.....15X8 rear w/5.25 backspacing. The car has 225/60/15 up front....245/60/15 rear. I'm working on a '65 Ranchero track car with Pantera 8" wheels on all 4. The upper arm needs work for them to fit up front but they will.

I was using some 15X7 rims with 4.5 backspacing and they worked good, agian some work on the upper arm is in order.

Tire size and back spacing

Good Morning

I got a couple Goodyear Eagle stock car tires from our local track. This tire is a 26.5 x 8 x 15 - with a 10-3/4 section width. I went to a local custom rim shop. He put the tires on the hoops and pressed in the center section. I took this assembley home and centered it in the wheel well. My rearend is about 3/16 off of center so the fit is tighter on one side. I have about 1/8 from the back side of the tire to the springs and about the same on the outside of the tire to the lip of the fender( not rolled yet ). In the narrowest wheel well the tire rubs on the outside. The backspace is about 4-7/8 now. I bought some Micky Thomson Drag slicks - 26 x 8.5 x 15 with a 9.9 section width. This should fit just fine. I could probably scoot the tire towards the spring some more and needed can always space it out later. When I get the tires mounted and the final adjustment on the center section I will let you know what the final backspace is. The rims are just some steel "smoothies" @ $60. each.
