2500 mile road trip in comet completed

it took me about 5 days to drive from Ann Arbor, MI to Ventura, CA. It was me and my dog the whole way through the deserts of Kansas and Utah. I mistakingly took I-70 through Denver and man was that business scary. I did spend about a day and half on the side of the road in Illinois replacing the starter battery and alternator. From St. Louis to 100 miles past Denver we drove straight through stopping for gas every 200 miles or so (still have a 6cyl gas tank with my 302 powerplant). Got some great pictures of the world's largest prairie dog in Kansas and even better ones when I hit Colorodo. It got a little scary when exits were 150 miles apart which meant doing a checkup on things and filling the gas tank to the neck. Vegas was awsome to see driving at night but didn't stay long. It was a long and hot ride and soon enough I might be turning around to get back to MI because the living arrangments just aren't what they seemed over the phone.

Other problem is I'm going through about a 1/2 quart of oil every gas tank and trans is slipping from 2nd to 3rd. Other than that it's still pretty solid.

Thats awesome! I always thought it'd be neat to take my car on a rode trip, unfortounetally though, I'd only do it with a freshly rebuilt drivetrain, making stops to repair starters and alternators doesn't exactly sound that great. I'm glad to hear you made it though. What year comet do you have?

Glad you made it all right, Some thing you just cant predict and that you have to work on it anywhere sometimes. Run her gently and if you have to it will make it back.

thanks guys, my car is a 62 S-22. Been working hard and am (hopefully) moving into an actual "trailer park" with a $500 camper I found in the paper. Not a bad situation really. It sounds very white trash of me to say but soundsl ike a good time for the pooch and I.

Some of my best times were living below my means! Colorado ROCKS, we go there a LOT. Glad the trip was fairly uneventful.
