Has anyone out there done a Mustang ll front end conversion on a 64/64 Falcon or Total Control's Performance package? Any feed back as to likes and dislikes in overall handleling and how these two systems weigh up perfomance wise aginst each other or is there no comparison?
I 'm currently rebuilding a 64 Sprint and will be droping in a Stroker, a T-5z and a 9" with disc. Would like to keep the Falcon Tenons tight into the asphalt so I intend to build a low, tight road hugger that can ride the canyons.
Thanks, for any imput

I used Rod & Custom Motorsports' Mustang II IFS conversion. Your car sounds very similar to mine, but I've got a '61 but a 302 not a stroker.

I love the conversion. It's the best thing I've done to my car, bar none. I got their 2" dropped spindles which I highly recommend. It makes it low but not too low, and helps it handle great.

I don't have any comparisons for you though.

Thanks anway. Sounds like a nice set up you have there. Who did the Mustang ll installation and how much did the installation set you back. I found guy in Hunnington Beach that has been working rods since the fiftys and seems to flip these out in his sleep.
How do you like the T-5z, did you use the front or rear located shift location? I installed a T-5 in my 63 with the rear shift and the stick location is perfect (for me) I only did so cause the previous owner had already hacked the hump with to install a 3 speed with a floor shift. Might keep it orthodox on the 64 or will relocate the floor support.
Here is a link to TCP site. Their conversion is sweet but pricy when you start adding up all the parts. Check out their rear suspension set up for the early birds.

I did a m2 on a 65 fairlane and had one done on a 37 dodge 6 years ago for $500. You can check this w/s out Lee Salisbury's m2 front suspension swap.

I did one on a 64 Falcon convertible. The kit I got was from Rod and custom motorsports. I just got the basic crossmember setup with the strut rod kit. Then I got a doner mustang and got the rest of the parts from. It was prettyt inexpensive that way. The suspension came out really good, It was done to make room for an FE. The crossmembers they sell are done just a hair wider so you might need a porta power to open up the frame a bit. but one you get it in place it fits like a dream nice and tight. I have pics of it too if you'd like to see them PM me with your e-mail address.

I got R&C's #2 kit. I had a company called Monroe's Automotive, in Upland, CA take care of the install. It was put in for about $700. That was everything, the welding and installation of the parts. If I had a garage of my own, I'd have asked them to do the welding, then I'd do everything else myself.

Don't mind at all,
Specialized Street Rods
his name is Terry Berzenye
714 894 9947 located at
15542 Computer Lane, Unit A
Hunitington Beach, CA
This guy has one of the most immaculate Shops I have ever seen. I know this is a ford forum, but he has a hot rod 34 Chevy coupe that is insanely detailed. Also had just picked up a 64 Ranchero that he was about to do.
Very nice guy, tell him Daniel with the Yellow Sprint sent you.
I would go there just to see what he is up to.

Thanks Hanky J for the info. 700.00 sounds pretty reasonable for the hook up, I have been quoted 14 to 16 hours for the install. Did you swap out your steering column as well, power rack?

I didn't get the power rack and I'm glad I didn't. With 6" wide wheels up front, power steering would be too quick at highway speeds. It's a little tight when doing parallel parking and making other very slow speed maneuvers, but really not a problem.

I think if I was going for a "G machine" with real wide front tires, I would have to go for the power rack. Start without it; you can always add it later if necessary.

That is just what I was thinking, thanks for backing me up.
I dumped the power unit on a 64 Futura that I had in High School back in the 70's for the nice tight feel of a manual unit, it was never a problem then. I have not gotten that soft that I can't manage parking the car with out the power assist.
