A 63 Falcon harness is probably not the same. 63 Falcon harness is different than the 65 Falcon. The 65 Falcon harness is different than the 65 Mustang. I know the firewall plugs for the engine harness are different.

Funny you mention this. This weekend my buddy and I will be tackling this Painless job on my '61 Falcon. I did not buy the Mustang-specific harness because at the time (a few years back) they did not have one for it. I expect it will work for you though.

I chose their "universal", non-GM, 12 circuit harness.

I'll report back to the gang once we finish the job. I expect it will take a few weekends before we're really, really finished. Be sure to use lots of relays for big items like electric fans and the like.

Good luck.

sounds good hankyj let me know how it goes, i figured it would work cause all of the harness is getting replaced. it cant be extremely different then a mustang. if anyone else has any input let me know. how much did the universal harness cost? cause if i find out before i buy one that the musang harness doesnt work then ill buy the universal one. thanks

My cost for the universal harness was about $400, bought directly from Painless if I remember correctly.

I would bet that the early Mustang harness is identical to a Falcon one.

The only thing else I know would be different is gen/alt wires, and turn signal indicator(s) light(s). I'm sure a wiring diagram will come in handy.

PAINLESS

Well, my buddy and I got started yesterday, and as the directions mention and numerous articles on "how to rewire your old car" state, the most time consuming part is organizing and planning where all the wires are going to go. I have the interior totally gutted, which helps a lot. We basically ended up "assessing" everything yesterday, cutting out the old instrument wires and everything to the back of the car. We located where the fuse block will go and have the new wire all "laid out". Lots of little jobs making the connections and so forth.

One thing to consider, definitely get the kit designed for the Ford cars, which will use the same plug in connections the original car did. Since I got an older "universal" kit, a lot of those connections have to be made on our own. It's a big job.

I'll continue to provide updates as we do the job.
