Lo Buck \'66 Falcon Bracket Car Oil Pan Mods Pictures:
The 351 W that is going into project Lo Buck, is coming strait out of my IMCA Modified and it uses a rear sump oil pan. That type of pan would not fit in a '66 Falcon, and normally I would be placing an order for a Moroso, or a Milodon pan, but....in true Lo Buck fashion, I decided to modify a stock front sump pan into something that would handle the oiling chores on this engine. I decided that what the pan really needed was a couple more quarts of oil and a new oil pickup. I sliced the bottom of the pan off, cut a piece of .040 cold rolled sheet steel, and added 1 1/4" to the depth of the pan, fom 7 3/4" to 9". This added depth added 3 quarts to the oil pan for a total of 8 quarts including the filter. I now needed an oil pickup that would match the added depth. I first made a flange that would bolt to the oil pump out of 1/4" plate. I then bent up a couple of pieces of .060 wall 3/4" diameter round tubing for the pickup tube. I used the same .040 sheet steel to make the pickup bottom and covered it with some perforated material to keep debris out. I located the pickup in the right rear corner of the sump to keep the pickup covered on hard acceleration. I MIG welded the pan together, so anyone with some welding skills should be able to do this project. The best part of the deal is that it cost next to nothing.
