Should I buy it???
I just had a guy tell me about a '65 Ranchero Deluxe basketcase that he wants to sell for $500. Aparently rust free (we shall see) and it was a 289/3 speed car. (no engine or trans) Needs a seat, windsheild, and back glass. All trim is there and it has been in a dry barn for many years.
Is $500 to much for a roller that needs everything? I don't plan on trying to make money on the deal, but I don't want to pay too much to get a project.
thanks!

I think $500.00 is a good deal for a strait clean body.
Minus the motor and some interior gives you the opportunity to do what ever you want without having to pull those parts out in the first place. Basically what ever you do will not depreciate the value, and you won't loose money on it unless you go crazy and put more into it than it is worth in restored running condition. And money talks four $100.00 bills might persuade the seller if he see's them.

BTW which rear should be in this car? Will it be the oft dreaded 7" or will should it be an 8"? 4 Lug or 5 lug? Sorry for the newbie questions, but I am a recovering "fairlane addict"
Will the 3 on the tree parts easily swap to 4 speed on floor install?
How hard is it to find a windshield and back glass for this car?
You guys rule

Top, to me it looks like your buying a shell . When I bought my Ranchero it was a basketcase laying in a alley that turned into a money pit trying to fix everything and mine was complete. But with the car your talking about you'll be spending a ton of money to replace parts not there plus a engine and trans, driveshaft. If you have your heart set on a Ranchero I would try to find another one that's complete but starting with a shell is big bucks. If you could pick up the body cheap you could part out the sheetmetal and make a few bucks. Thanks DT

I have a 302 built in my garage right now, so I am not too worried about the no engine/trans issues... I thought about the parting out aspect too. I guess I will have to wait and see the car

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the car was originally equiped with a 289, then it should be an 8" rearend with 5 on 4 1/2 lug pattern.
