I can get a 8.8 disc brake rear from a99 or so explorer with all the goodies includig sway bar and aluminum drive shaft and springs .with my choice of gears I,ll be running a 300 hp I hope 289 with an aod from an 88 F 150. If I move the spring perches to match the car, and order custom backspaced wheels , can I make it work without shortening the axles ? Thanks Shovelhead

From what you've described, I can't imagine you couldn't just used properly backspaced wheels.

You might want to re check your measuring stick or rule. 13/4 = 3 1/4 or 26/8's since you like working with big fractions. if you divide that in half that would leave you with a remainder of 1 5/8 per side not 7/8. There are 4/4 per inch.

You could probably use the 2005 GT wheels without spacers
