InLine 6

Thanks guys, I have another question. Does anyone know any websites that have high performance parts for the smaller six cylinders. I can get parts for the V8's with no problem but I am new to the six cylinder thing and I want to beef up the motor just a bit. I had a 200 sprint motor in a mustang when I was a kid that run faster than most cars. It would fly so I want to beef a six up just to be a little different.

Thanks

The Mustang Sprint 6 banger was just a marketing ploy as the motor was the same as a standard 200. This is a classic "the older I get the faster I was" syndrome.

Hopped up 6 bangers are unique and different. It will cost plenty of $$$ to hop one up to run with even a stock 2bbl 302 though.

Thanks 66Fairlane this is just what I was looking for. A lot of people don’t build six cylinders because of the price and it would be cheaper to just buy a crate 302 or use the 302 boss I already have but I’m in this to be different going for a different look not so much for the power and speed.

Re: InLine 6

the statement about taking so much to make it run with a stock 302 is just nonsense, especially within city speeds. My near stock 200 (well its near stock right now) with just a pertronix and a pony carbs 1100 (so yeah pretty much stock) has plenty of low end torque as it is, and from light to light will run with a stock (130hp) honda, and thats shifting at 3 and a half (a gentleman tried to race me the other day. That is with about 70rwhp at 4500rpms, probably only about 50 or 60 when i'm shifting. Torque is what the sixes have on em in the low end.

That combined with weight, (add about 200lbs at least for all the heavier equipment and v8) especially in a light falcon will make it move quite well in city. Sure unless you turbo it you won't be running 11's, but from stoplight to stoplight you could build a nice little six that gets 25mpg or more highway, and 20s in city (when babying it) but still has plenty of hop with a cam, rebuilt head with bigger valves, two barrel carb, electronic ignition and header with free flowing exhaust should put you at about 98 or 110 rwhp. Spend a little more up front and purchase one of the alloy heads when they come out, those are gonna be so much easier to addon, with choices from TBI, EFI, or just two or four barrel carbs.

If you turbo it you can get even more out of it (hows 300ftlbs at 2,000rpms sound?).

So yeah in the end the six has its bad points, crappy breathing head, not a huge parts database, but you know what its fun being different and i like peoples looks when they see the straight engine under my hood.

He's what a Falcon should look like under the hood. Anytime you want to do a little stop light Gran Prix just let me know.

Re: InLine 6

I have made my mind up to go with the six cylinder only because I have had cars with the speed. I traded my 1969 Nova with a 350 for these two Falcons and it run the low 10's at the drags. I just want something that will run good street wise, good on gas and look good. I am really going to fix this car up. It might not be the same as it was when new but it is going to turn a few heads and win a few trophies. It is going to be different from anything anyone as seen so far other than everyone knowing it is a Falcon. I live in Tulsa OK and I am considering putting an Indian Theme paint job to the car and give it the name Little Brave. My racing days are over all I am going to do is sit now and let people look at the cars. I am putting my other Falcon in the Falcon Club of America car show in Springfield MO. October 12-13 just for the heck of it. It will be in the daily driver class. My long term plan is to have a stock 1963 Falcon to look at and one out of this world Falcon sitting beside it with a lot of modern touches to it. All in a day of having fun.

Re: InLine 6

That alloy head pic posted by 66Fairlane looks really close to our own 250 2V head, but in Alum.
Here's one question I've been meaning to ask for a while. Whenever I read about Falcon 6cyl engines in the US, I never come across it. And that's what I'm guessing that the Falcon 188 and 221 must have been purely for our own Falcons here in Aust. They were available roughly in 66,67,68 and 69.
