going to 5 lug rear end question

Ok well i was wondering what sort of work would be required to swap out the six cylinder rear end on my falcon with a 8 inch (or possibly nine) assuming its the right width. Basically i'm trying to figure out what parts i will need to get, and how long it would probably take me as right now this thing is my DD and i'm not sure how long it will be that.

Re: going to 5 lug rear end question

I'm assuming your Falcon is an early '60s one.
I had a 1964 Falcon once, and fitted an 8 3/4 out of a '64 Fairlane.
It increased the track by an inch or two, but was OK.
Only had to get the drive shaft length right, and move the spring mount saddles outwards, and then welded on. The Fairlane brakes were used.
Took a little while to hook it all up, but wasn't too much of an effort.

Re: going to 5 lug rear end question

oh sorry i thought i put year, its a 65.

Yeah i figure i'll talk to my neighbor about getting the actual rear end because he runs a ford junkyard and should have one that would work for me. I'm just worried about different things like driveshaft length, though i probably will be in the market for a new driveshaft since i'm also doing a tranny swap soon (2.77 to a 3.03).

So far it looks like it shall be at least a three day project to get everything done (disc brakes, rear end swap, and tranny) .

On a better note though i'll also be installing new springs too so that will make the car handle better and be stiffer .

Re: going to 5 lug rear end question

The biggest I had was finding the brake hose parts to get the lines hooked up to my Falcon block. I found one at a shop that I seem to recall was off of an mid 70's van. Hummm.......
