8.8 Rear

I Found The Correct 8.8 Rear End Out Of A 64 Four Speed Falcon With The Tapered Tubes With Spring Plates And U Bolts, Looks Good And Is Complete Ecept Foe Drums.i Will Replace Wheelcylenders ,shoes And All Hardware . I Think It Is A Posi, the Guy Said It Would Spin Both Tires. Sould I Replace The Axel Bearing? It Makes No Noise When I Spin The Axel Hub And Thereis No Loose Play Anywhere. So I Don"t Know.

Re: 8.8 Rear

The '64 Falcon V8 had a 8 inch not 8.8. If both axles spin the same direction when one is turned then it probably has a posi. If the one axle is turned and the other one goes in the opposite direction then it is an open rear which I bet it is. Sure wouldn't hurt to replace the axle bearings and seals.

Re: 8.8 Rear

I would also replace the pinion seal, especially if it has been sitting for awhile.

Re: 8.8 Rear

Drain it, and check the fliud for any metal, by using a strainer. It would not hurt to open the pumpkin, and change that gasket while your at it. This will also let you get a good look at the gears, and see if there is any wear damage.

You can chek the ratio, by simply turning the axle 1 complete trun at the wheel side, and counting how many revolutions the input yoke will make.
