Mustang steering box

I think I found out the hard way... I am swaping over to V8 parts... A mustang gear box should work in my 65 Falc right?? The steering box is from a 65 mustang , and it seems as if the shaft is somewhere in the ball park of being 3-4" to long.... I can't do anything about this can I???

Re: Mustang steering box

Okay, I hate spam and the a-holes who post it....I did the same swap in my 64 sedan. I cut the steering shaft shorter by 3.25" and took a piece of 3/4" i.d. 1/8" thick tube and welded the two back together wihtin the tube. Been like that for 9 years now. I cut it belowthe end of the column in hte engine compartment. In hindsight I should have made the cut so the splice was hidden in the steering column tube or used a 67 and later Mustang rag joint on the spice to isolate vibration.

Re: Mustang steering box

The Mustang boxes all have longer shafts. Either cut the current steering shaft or try mating in a Mustang column. Or - go buy a Falcon box or hove your's rebuilt.
