New '60 Falcon needs help
I am new to the site. Just bought a 60' falcon for my wife. She had one as a teenager. I will be upgrading everything. Disc on the front, power booster, V8 conversion, C4 trans, rear axel, and power steering and anything else I have forgotten. I will need a lot of help to find which doner cars will be needed. I welcome all input. I know it is a lot of work but we are doing the project together... should be fun. I will post our progress.

It takes a real thoughtful man to give his wife a really good Falcon she can really enjoy. Its the dream of every wife. It is also the dream of every man for his wife to allow him to have a good Falcon I know because my wife told me I got a good Falcon when I got my 63. I have been satisfied every since. Welcome to the Falcon pages where you will learn more about Falcons than you will in the streets.

Re: New '60 Falcon needs help
First problem. I found a granada with spindles. I know the upper and lower control arms must be changed for V8. Will the arms off the granada fit or do I need them off of a Mustang?

Re: New '60 Falcon needs help
Another welcome. I can't believe there are more Falcon owners.
earlycruiser, I lived out Mackay/Arco way back in the late 70s early 80s, then down to Pocatello for a year. That is some great part of the US, often thought of moving back there if I hadn't collected so much stuff here.
One place that has info and you may need to shop at is falconparts.
here is a tech on V8 swap: Falcon Enterprises sells most available parts for the 1960 - 65 Ford Falcon automobile

Re: New '60 Falcon needs help
Again, Im not too sure but think you would need mustang arms or 64/65 v8 falcon or comet arms ,check out www.opentrackracingproducts.com.good stock looking high quality stuff at a fair price. I for one would not do power brakes, just manual disks with double jug master cylinder works fine . hang loose man ,falcons rule. JD

Re: New '60 Falcon needs help
Hi E/C
I've done what you are contemplating. I converted my '60 to 5 lug discs but at all 4 corners. For a rear that fits, get a mid '70's Comet or Maverick 8". They also have discs at the front that you can use (same as the Granada's). Find yourself a Mustang vender and buy the upper/lower control arms for the early Mustang (64-65), they are a bolt on. You can use your stock steering gear but go to Mustangsteve.com and purchase a pair of his
tierod bushings, which will allow you to marry the two different steering components (Granada/Maverick/Comet spindle, '60 Falcon tie rod). A new manual m/c for the Maverick/Comet is a bolt-on (use the pushrod from the Falcon). There are several ways to go for engine mounts, stock '63 V8, 64-66 Mustang V8, or aftermarket (Ron Morris Mustang adjustable, this is the way I went with my 302/AOD)
You will find the '60/'61 Falcons are unique, and may cause some head scratching when trying to get parts and trying to fit a V8 and whatever trans you choose, but if you're handy with your hands and creative, you can get things to work by using stock Ford parts.

Re: New '60 Falcon needs help
Most everyone here seems to be sharp on their favorite subject, but you did ask a few questions.
One thing I found was that the firewall really need to take a hit. It is flat tight with the original six in there. Whack-whack, whack.
There does not seem to be quite as much space between the spring towers as on the later models. If you are contemplating installing late model front suspension, then consider moving them apart a bit more or get rid of them.
Most of the 1960 Falcons had vacuum wipers. Begin looking for electric if you intend to license it for the street.
Take out the steering column, and remove the standard colum based hardware to transmission. Figure on installing floor mounted items then.
Mustang radiators fit just fine. Align you engine installation thoughts to aligning up with a common Mustan radiator too.
Wm.
