My new 408 stroker motor - photos

Finally got my stroker motor, moral of the story, NEVER pre-pay for anything, no matter how good a "deal" it appears to be! Included a link to some photos, including one of my first problem, the headers I had made do not match the head ports (Edelbrock Victor Jr), oh well if this is my biggest issue I will be happy.

Any suggestions on "off the shelf" headers that will work in my 65 Ranchero? I have the R&C MII R&P so the shock towers are not a problem and I have a hydraulic clutch linkage for my 5 speed. Not sure if I want shorties or ?? Any thoughts appreciated. Also interested in anyone having experience with the Rod & Custom rear coilover conversion kit.. asked this question in another post.

Included some shots of the engine being dropped off at Superior Automotive in Anaheim Ca for dyno tuning - the engine shot of the dyno is a Cleveland. Wish I had these guys build my engine! Superior Automotive - Engine Blueprinting, LS1 engines, LS2 engines, LS7 engines, Engine Dyno, Flow bench, more! seems you find the best places AFTER you have already done something else. I will post the results next week (if they are good anyway ;-) )

I just hope the engine runs as good as it looks! Lots of work ahead, I took the truck all apart 2 years ago so I hope I remember how to put it together ... spending the kids inheritance (hope they like blue!)

Dave, Ben here I got your photos of the motor and man it does look sweet. Sure hope the numbers come as you expect. When do you think they are going to pull it? Yes keep us posted. By the way, Sunday June 22 Forty Ford Days at La Palma park.

Very nice engine. Now, what are you going to do to make it stop? What are you going to do to get traction/hook up? I would try crites headers and in fact I originally bought some but they would not work because of the flaming river steering column set up etc was in the way. I ended up getting the shorties for the motor and they fit fine.

Well, I have the disk brakes in the front that came with the R&C MII Rack & Pinion kit. I plan on getting a narrowed 9" from Currie with Disk Brakes on the rear.

For traction I am looking at the setup that R&C Motorsports is offering, I asked about this one in another post.

I also have a flaming river tilt wheel, which shorty headers did you use? I have Edelbrock Victor Jr heads.

When the shop that built the headers I have, we put a dummy block and heads in place but they were not THESE heads and I think the ports are bigger and the angle is different because the driver side header hits the block before the mating surfaces on the ports are flat.

First attempt will be to make the shop get them right but that is a logistics nightmare since the shop is 100 miles away and I do not want to trailer the truck down there again.

It should run good and put out about 500hp depending on the goodies etc. On my car I have the Heidts front suspension with corvette disk brakes all around. I also have Heidts coil overs and a Heidts 4 link system for the traction. The shortie headers are from summit. Here are a couple of pictures: The engine I have is not a crate motor and professionally built. I was told it will put out between 530-550hp.

Right now I am on vacation and the motor will be started when I get back next week, hopefully. There is always something when you build a car so you have to be patient, take your time and do it right. Anyway, good luck and if you have any other questions please ask. But don't ask me cause I am not too sharp on mechanical stuff like some of the guys and even gals around here.

Dave, as for headers try checking out this outfit:

They are good quality headers a little pricey. I had a pair on my 67 Fairlane Ranchero and I had them on in less than an hour.

James, not sure, you would have to email them. But they are good at returning any queries. I just asked them if those headers where tested with any of the rear steer rack and pinion setups and they said yes with the Unisteer. Otherwise their headers are of good quality and applications.
