dip stick

I noticed the tube my dipstick goes into is free floating. Where the tube meets the block it looks like the tapered end is out of the housing. I tried removing that piece the tube goes into, but no go. I removed the two front bolts and two on the bottom. Does this piece come of or is it part of the block? Not sure if there is another bolt I'm missing. Any help appreciated...it's a 260 by the by

Re: dip stick

I wondered what one looked like that wasn't broken. Thanks...Anyone had to replace this tube? I guessing it's just pressed into the block?

Re: dip stick

Pressed into timing cover. Some have a O-Ring on the base of the tube. Most dont.

Re: dip stick

Is this piece the same size as 289,302?

Re: dip stick

It is the same.
Unless you are trying to stay original I would make a flexible tube to replace it myself. The stick should be 20 1/4" long using the stock tube. If you make one the length would be dependent on your tube length. The important dimension is how far it extends into the pan.
