Mustang II front end retrofit

I Have heard that for regular high performance driving (ie autocross etc.) that the mustang II aftermarket stuff is an inherently weak design due to the lack of an actual strut rod. Any comments? Gettin ready to pull the trigger on front suspension soon. Would be nice to get rid of those shock towers though...........

I've heard the same thing and that it takes some work to get it to handle good. FatnFast has a rod & custom MII but I think his is setup for drag racing.

Not sure how much these will help but
Alcino's MII suspension uncovered - Pro-Touring.com

what will handle better? MII or well-prepped stock - Pro-Touring.com

I want to lose my shock towers - Pro-Touring.com

Re: Mustang II front end retrofit

Hey guys, I've had a Rod & Custom MII front end my '61 Falcon for years and love it. It's a street car. I have heard and agree, however, that if you're going serious high performance twisty track racing you could do a lot better with a well-prepped "Shelbyfied" front end.

For the Falcons you'll really have to dive deep into the pro-touring catalog and really spec it out. It can be done, and done better than the MII though, I'm pretty sure.

Do a search for David (?) Blante on Google. If I'm remembering correctly he road races a '63 Falcon and he's got his own recipe for the front end. Perhaps contact Holman Moody and see what they did/do for their old Falcon track racers.

Good luck!

You are correct and so I have been told. I had the same dilemma when I started my build. I almost pilled the trigger on that MII conversion but caught myself. They make for great street rods and dragsters seeking to open up the engine compartment for a bigger mill but when it comes to Autocross and Road they have their limitations.
My front suspension is an eclectic mix of Opentracker, TCP and Global West. My rear suspension came from Walt Hane at EPS http://www.eps-hane.com/techtips4.html
Great guys to deal with and he and some other have shared a great deal of knowledge in helping me tweak Falcon into submission.
Last I spoke with Walt, he and his Son Chip were starting on a 64-65 Falcon road race build.

Re: Mustang II front end retrofit

Do you use his narrowed rear leafs? If so, how wide a tire did you squeeze back there?
