1963 V8 Stock Exhaust Location

After 3 months of work I am ready to start thinking about my exhaust system. I have a 62 that will have a 289/302. I am not sure how I want to run my exhaust. How did the 1963 with 260 run its exhaust from the factory? Duals or single? Does anybody have a picture of a 61-63 with exhaust exiting in front of the rear tires? I don’t really care for straight exits below the bumper unless they are built into the valiance somehow. Ideas?

The 62/63 ran their exhaust from the manifolds to the mufflers....

Wish I could help, Be sure that your future posts have a decent Font setting, your paragraph was so small I could hardly see it without straining...

They were all single exhaust. They did not have power enough to warrant duels.
The exhaust pipe made its way from the manifold to the rear of the car inside the right (passenger) frame rails over the axle and connected to a round muffler with a short turn down as a tail pipe.
Right out the repair manual for 64. I'm sure the 63 V8 was the same.

So the V8 had the same look as the 6 banger. I guess the drivers side pipe made the crossover between the trans and the engine and connected to the standard exhaust system with some sort of Y-pipe. Thanks.

Was sort of rare to see a 1961 or 1962 Ford Falcon with a 260 V-8 engine at the time. Hot Rod had a special on how to install a 312 engine into a 1960 Falcon, as that was only thing available at the time for general folks. Routig the exhaust ahead of the rear wheels would have been a trick that Hot Rod would have given to some favorite shop of theirs.

My 63-1/2 Sprint (I purchased in 64) had single exhaust like was stated. Single muffler on right side ahead of bumper. It was then converted to true duals with glass packs exiting the rear. I later installed mustang hi-po manifolds 28" glass packs and exited ahead of the rear wheels with slash cut chrome tips. I will look and see if I can find some pictures.

I bought a dual exhaust system made for a 65-66 Mustang from Summit for my 64 Falcon. Only a few modifications required.

Re: 1963 V8 Stock Exhaust Location

The only issue with exiting in front of the rear tires is that there is nowhere to hang the mufflers. You would have to use the old Mopar style where the inlet and outlet are on the same end of the muffler. They tuck up under the back seat cavity quite nicely. I dumped mine just behind the rear wheels pointing almost straight down. Ill post a pic later today as it'll be at the muffler shop and on the hoist anyways.

My 1963 1/2 Falcon Ranchero with original V8 has duals on it with 18 in glass packs. Tail pipes run up and over the rear axle and out the back with turn downs. looks very sano !! At 6000 RPM it sounds so good it will give you a WOOOOOODY
