62 crossmember and AOD questions

I have a 62 roundbody and have a c4 302 combo to put in it. I was already to go and a 302 and AOD combo fell into my lap (75.00). Transmission is rebuilt. I have searched around here for a couple of days for information. (Unfortunately "AOD" is not long enough for the search engine).

What I have found has been helpful. But I still have some questions.

From what I have read on other AOD installs there was a tunnel change between 61 and 62. So I am I right to assume that I might not need to cut the reenforcement section of the tunnel?

Some of the treads I read where getting old and things could have changed. The threads I read said no aftermarket cross member is available; is this still true?

I think my car had an AOD in it previously as there are two dents in the fire wall where the bell housing would rub.

Will this setup work with the steering column shifter?

I also read that the stock speedo will work, also true?

My rear end is an eight inch 2.79. Is an AOD overkill? (Although I might change later).

I am not familiar with the AOD, is the overdrive automatic or does it need some sort of switch? (kind of like sport & econ mode).

I know about the TV cable, but any info on linkages or mounting points would be helpful.

Does anybody that has done this conversion hate it? love it?
