Location of the Nuetral Safety switch

Can anyone tell me where the neutral safety switch is at on a 1964 falcon with 3 speed on the column? Maybe even the color of wires going to it...

You did not mention exactly as to which tranny is being mentioned here. Each one has a different factory wiring loom. See your packing slip too.

If you got a clutch, depress the pedal, and THAT is your safety switch. Does not show up on official wiring diagrams either.

Re: Location of the Nuetral Safety switch

The car was originally a 3 speed manual on the column (1964). It put a C4 tranny in it. I looked at the bottom of the steering column and didn't see anything. The original clutch pedal is still in so...I'm at a loss?? Did the '64's even have a NSS. I can start her up by jumping out the solinoid on the fire wall, and running a jumper wire fromt he positive side of the battery to the top of the coil, but when I turn the key nothing happens...no clicking or anything. This is a new ignition switch also. Any ideas..

P.S. FEandgoingbroke....thank's a million for the online parts manual!!! That will be a huge help getting this bird back on the road!!!

Re: Location of the Nuetral Safety switch

Manual Transmission cars did NOT have a NS safety switch.

No problem about the manual link. It's there to use. Thank the guy that owns the site! He's awesome!

There should be Power going to the LEFT terminal on the solenoid when the key in in the CRANK position.

C-4 has the N/S switch on the tranny down at teh shift levers... Look there for wires going to cab.

I had thought that something did not read correctly. During the early 1970's or 1980's they put a neutral safety switch up well under the dash. One in which forced the driver to push the clutch pedal all the way down to firewall, and then was OK to hit the Go switch. NOT a popular item though.

Otherwise, if you had an automatic the switch was near base of steering column, as you mentioned, and then connected in to some switch on the upper left of the tranny (on a C-4).

If auto originally had a clutch, then the factory omitted the wires. Read the packing slip. Not needed for that particular auto. Most all of the replacement looms offered via vendors today have the provision for the wires, same as for air conditioning etc. if you got it or not. One part number fits all.
