Wiring Question

I'm getting ready to build my own harness and rewire my 61 Falcon and I have a question. On the wiring diagram I have it shows the pink wire coming off of the ignition switch being listed as a "resistance" wire. The wire splits when going through the firewall and goes to the coil and to the starter solenoid. I would assume I need to a ballast resistor to the coil but do I need to do anything special for the wire going to the solenoid?

Re: Wiring Question

the pink wire is your ballast resistor. No additional device is needed

Re: Wiring Question

Ryan, I HAVE a non cut perfect 1961 Falcon wiring harness in my possession right now...

I'll let you have it for $40 bucks

I thought it was faulty so I swapped it out for another i had but it turned out to be a poorly grounded headlight switch was my problem.

The Pink wire is a resistance wire that will heat up when the car is running because it is naturally reducing the voltage from 12 to about 6 or a little less, to run the Points and coil.

Gotta use a ballast resistor if you do not use that wire.

Re: Wiring Question

Unfortunately all of the wiring in the vehicle needs to be replaced so the pink wire will not be staying. For ease of installation I'll go with an inline ballast resistor. After a little more searching on the internet I was able to find the info I needed about the wiring.

Thanks but I am actually looking forward to rewiring the vehicle myself with some upgrades to put relays on some of the lights and added a more modern fuse box to the vehicle.

so, it was the headlight switch after all.
