I'm 6'4" so I need a little more room in my 63 ranchero...if anyone has an idea or knows how I can get my bench seat under the rear window sill or knows what bucket seats will fit under sill, that would be really helpfull

Re: Looking for ideas for buckets or keep the bench

I have a 65 Ranchero and removed that sill from mine many years ago. To me it looks cleaner and gives a lot more room to move seat back and/or use taller seats. I then had an upholstery shop make a panel to cover the unfinished metal behind seat. Can post a pic if you are interested.

Re: Looking for ideas for buckets or keep the bench

I just bought a 63 Ranchero & the guy was 6" plus. What he did was to take the existing bench and remove the tracks. He then bolted the bench as far back as the bench back would allow for him. The rear sill was retained. iIpersonally don't like the bench as I had it in my 64 Falcon. Have buckets from a Cougar now (black) and it looks like it belongs there. I did notice on the Ranchero that the floor pan looks to have the same patterns as the 64 Falcon and seat locations. I noticed in my 64 that spacers were used to get the right angle (for comfort) to have a slight angle downward at the rear. The spacers are about 1 1/2 iches thick. The front seat tracks rests on the raised cross 'punch up" (from the factory) From underneath, you'll see the holes that is there for the seats-either for buckets or the bench. The inner rear spacers are made out of some kind of layers of material similiar to hard plastic / rubber? The outer rear spacers are metal. The track bolts through the spacers to the floor, if I remember right. There are dimples for bucket seats that would have been made at the factory. Otherwise the set of outer holes are made for a bench. If you or anyone has 65 Mustang seats in their 63 Ranchero, let us know how it fits. I just bought a set and want to use them in & renew them (new covers etc.).

skip,
here is the link to my album with bucket seats that i put in my 62 2 dr wagon. I just switched them to my 63 2dr sedan and re-covered the bench seat and installed it back in my 62 wagon. I did this becouse of the 5 speed in my 63. The seats are out of 2002-2004 Honda Civic 2 dr. Had to make new mounting tabs and space the backs up on the seat tracks. No big deal. Food for thought.
Let me know what you think:

Man Butch, that looks awsome and comfy too. That might be the direction I go with my seats, thanks!

Re: Looking for ideas for buckets or keep the bench

My wife and I are both 6'5".I just picked up a 64 Comet convertable with a bench seat and need to swap the bench for buckets as well. I was thinking about getting some high back seats, but after seeing the ones you have, low backs have to be the choice. Very nice!
