Gas tank

What color (if any) was the gas tank painted on 62 Falcon? Did it match the body?

Re: Gas tank

The tank was natural metal from the factory.

Re: Gas tank

The factory NEVER painted the fuel tanks.

Everyone I worked on was hot dipped galvanized, inside and out, or some other process for Anti-rust.

Paint may have been due to overspray.

Re: Gas tank

Thanks. I asked because I got an aftermarket one and wanted to know how it should look. I guess I could clear coat it.

Re: Gas tank

Clear coating it will only make it ugly after a while...

The Galvy coating is sufficient for many years.

The fuel tanks were installed After the car's were painted.

The reproduction tank I bought had a protective coating on it. I didn't realize it until I tried to wipe it down with some thinner to prep it. After the discovery I left it as it was.

I think Tyler is correct for today. The hot-dip galvanizing process may be too expensive now. Is much cheaper to electro-plate on something instead which leaves a very smooth surface.
