Smile Re: rear end

I'm using a 66 mustang 8 inch , direct bolt in with small tube axle housing . It's about the same as the falcon and camet V/8 cars came with . A 63 fairlane and 76 maverick 8 inch large tube fits , just need larger U - bolts , or if you can find a 57 / 58 / 59 ford passenger car 9 inch , they are direct bolt in with larger U-bolts . All of those fit and are the same width plus or minus a 1/2 inch as the original . I have tried all of these in 64 and 65 falcons .Other 9 inch rears will be wider accept the early small bronco , but I'm not sure of the bolt pattern spacing on it .

Re: rear end

My 9-inch was out of a Ford Granada and it was within a 1/2 inch of the original rearend. An early 8-inch would be cheaper and maybe an 8.8 out of a Explorer or truck as you mentioned.

I'm with SLCK64, stick with the 289/302 engine. It's a bolt in deal, no brainer swap. You won't have to deal with radiator issues, custom headers, motormounts, etc. and you wont get crap at car shows for being a trader! Not to mention again the VAST amount of speed parts out there that are budget friendly.

Just my 2 cents.

John

Re: rear end

Yes , as mentioned the granada is a bolt in ,but all granadas are not 9 inch , I used one from a 76 / 302 , that looked more like a explorer but with drum brakes , kinda big and bulky looking It had the wrong gears for me and was not a drop out third member I replaced it with a 59 car 9 inch

Re: rear end

the 350 is a good motor, been around 40 years without a hitch, but so is the 302...

I hope you find a 302 you can afford! Try Craigslist and e-bay.

Re: rear end

If you can find a T-coupe they come with an 8.8" with trac-lok & either 3:55;s or 3:73;s (auto/standard trans) & disc brakes, so you get a simple bolt just by adding leaf spring mounts,
pretty cheap & strong

Re: rear end

Fordkidjr,

Where are you located? 302 / 5.0's just about fall out of trees. Craigslist and pic-a-parts are your friend. Check for Mustangs and explorers as a donor car.

I picked up a 94 mustang 5.0 this past spring for $300. It's in my Fairlane right now and runs great. I just changed all the gaskets and new seals before I put it in.
