Is my '65 Falcon Futura over-weight?
I just had my car weighed today and was a little disappointed when I saw the scale reading. I've always beleived it weighed in around 2,625 lbs, plus a little more considering it was a V8 car. My old Ford reproduction pricing & specification guide says that's the weight for a 2 door hardtop Futura of my year, but doesn't specify details like engine size, etc. but I assumed it was close to that weight.
I also made some assumptions I was somewhat lighter than that due to past & recent changes to the car that should have put me well under that weight (aluminum heads, radiator, intake, carb, lightweight fuel cell, tube headers, etc) and several weight eliminating items like removing the entire heating & ventallation system (and no spare tire).
My rolling weight was 3050 lbs without me in the car. Is the scale I went to that far off or is the Ford spec sheet missing something? I have not even added a roll bar or other items. The only weight adding thing I've done was swap the 8 inch rear for a shortened 9 inch with larger tires & wheels out back.
I'm confused!
John

I think your scales are right on. I weighed my car and it is almost a twin to yours at the local grain elevator and it weighed 3000 LBs

Re: Is my '65 Falcon Futura over-weight?
You may have saved 100 pounds in over all weight, but often base weights are on an empty fuel tank, no radio, base little engine with standard three speed tranny, cheap cloth seats. and other items to save a pound or two on weight. Sometimes the figures did not include oil or oil filter.
Those items alone ought to raise the overall weight 3-400 pounds.

Re: Is my '65 Falcon Futura over-weight?
I'll trade weights with you!
My '69 wagon (manual steering, manual brakes, lighter weight front disc conversion, LIGHT wheels, aluminum heads/intake/radiator) no speakers, no a/c, factory rubber flooring is a bit heavier than I had been led to expect.
Without me, it is right at 3600#!!!
About 300 more than I had expected. Oh well, I'm still hitting nearly 118mph at the finish line!

Re: Is my '65 Falcon Futura over-weight?
you listed all you did to lower the weight.
but im sure you did things to rais the weight also.
v8 and trainy would add also the original tires and rims are realy light.
i would bet you got some big tires out back.
how about the rearend that 6cyl rear is alot lighter than a 9".
im sure thers more.
