Re: Repairing Window Crank Assemblys
How to remove etc. is all inside the official auto manual. Take you about 15 minutes to get the stuff out of door if still on the auto. But you gotta know your tool inventory and uses.
In the manual, they cite a number of special tools to which you cannot get anymore, but replacements are around all over the place. I cut up the window crank remover from sheet metal and tin snips, the very same ones used to cut the window runners. Took longer to find that appropriate shape of sheet metal in the pile. Find a good tipped set of screw drivers.
I had a few extra doors here, and stole a window regulator out of one of them on driver's side instead of fixing the old one. Saved me 3/4 of a day of work. Clean and lube good, even if no one sees it once installed.
I removed the felt strips that are at upper window sides with new clips. Cost about $3 each side. Do it then, as you cannot get to these suckers without going through same routine as for the window edges. Understand repeat work again?
Overall, minus painting exterior and interior, greasing lubing the window regulator and hinges, cost me less than $50 for two front doors. But that was three years ago too, as they work is still going on.
Bent the door lock key a year ago, and had to go back to the old door supplies and....
