Re: Shock towers
The writer who mentioned RRS....... I bought that kit for my 64 Falcon and you need to buy the sheet metal kit too. That kit comes w/a template to place on your shock tower in order to show you where to cut out the tower section. It eliminates the upper arm completly, leaving just the lower...no more springs or shock absorber. That is replaced by the RRs kit which ocmes with a strut setup, new caliper, rotor, lines, bearings etc.. It bolts to where the shock tower cap was in its bolt holes and on the bottom at the lower arm ball joint.
Now you have a strut with spring adjustability, new spindle, uses stock tie rod ends and disc brakes. The plate they give you for the shock tower mod gives you lots of clearance.
I have a 351W with aussie heads (427 ci)) which widens the block width & before the mod, I could not get headers in there..period.
I also have a rack & pinion setup that bolts to the RRS spindles too. Lots of room now. I would recommend it. Very happy with it. And no I am not a salesman for RRS. Just a happy camper with the kits. Good luck.
