What a High HP 302 Idle should sound like

Hey folks, just a little fustrated with my friends cars that say they can not get a good idle on 350 - 450 HP engines.

These vid's show it can be done if you take the time to tune the engine correctly.

Based on my 1/4 mile runs last summer of 12.8's, I estimate ( and from other sources) I have near 385 HP, 330 ft/pounds

Could be faster if I went away from my 3.00 gears and better tires, but that is an expense for another year. Paint job is next.

Anyway: 20 degrees initial timing, 33 degrees total mechanical advance. Steady 12 Hg Vacuum in gear, 17 MPG if being good...so I get 12 MPG....(laughs)

800 rpm in gear idle, 87 octain, 575 CFM Annular Venturi Demon Carb, 73 / 81 jetting on a 1" 4 hole spacer. Windsor Sr. Heads, 236 degree .510 lift custom grid, True Roller rockers, and a fuel supply system that is up to the job. 3000 Stall and C4.

So, 1/2 crank starting, 200 RPM drop when in gear, no burning eye syndrom, cleanest spark plugs you have ever seen. Can rev in gear and recover without stalling... see for yourself....

Sorry that my "You Tube" video's are out of sync with the sound.....

Enjoy... will answer any reasonable questions.

Greg, do you have to replace the motor mounts in that sucker after every run.... or did you weld that motor to the frame, and that is your frame twisting around....!!!!! (laughs) Looks like it is prosessing bolts....

I only have paper photographs of my 70 Torino... I gatta get them digitized... it is still my favorite car I owned. Mine was Puke Green

2 1/4 inch with stock H-Pipe Factory re-production bending for 66 HiPo 289. I will be changing to better mufflers, now that I am happy with the way the engine is running.
