That is a the chase that went down in the books. Some one did a count once and I'm unsure of the numbers but the charger lost something like eight hub caps during that chase, each time the camera did a shot of the car they were always in place. Also count how many times during that chase that they pass that little green VW and the white Firebird.
There was an artical last month in a rod magazine and one of the two Mustangs equiped with 390's used for that shoot was recovered or found. Some guy on the east coast has it and keeps it under wraps. I read that Steve even tried to buy it back from the guy after his divorce and two months before he passed away. Steve's Son even tried to buy it after that and the owner still would not let it go. The other Mustang I believe was sent to a wrecking yard crushed and or parted out, it was the one used in all of the stunts. Might have been those pre developed Pit Bull maneuvers Steve was doing on that Charger or those Jumps on the streets of San Francisco. Steve did all of his own driving and really pounded that stunt Mustang into the ground.
We use to have an expression we used to use in High School when one of our buddies was showing his skills in his car "Gee, you drive just like Steve McQueen".
