Re: 1/8th mile pass on my 450 MX

The bike in the close lane is me, its an '05 Yamaha YZ450F four stroke moto-cross bike. The Quad in the far lane went low 8s and I ran 9teens all day. The bike was wheelying bad all day with 3.00+ 60' times, this pass I didnt wheely but spun real bad so my 60' was even worse. Definately a bit scary launching that bike on asphault but once it settled down I had a great time chasing down most of the 8-9 second cars. I was bored and I didnt have anything to race last summer so I figured I would give my MX bike a run. Why not?

Awesom. I have driven and race (mx+enduro) alot of bikes.
There nothing like full throttle on a big fourstroke.(maybe a v8 on full throttle)

Yeah I couldnt believe how fast it would build RPM and scoot. I think with a much longer swing arm, motorcycle slick and a 60' in the 1.80 range low 8s would be possible. The scary part is that most people who dont ride these think they are kid toys. DANGEROUS!

Slick tire, start in second letting the clutch slip a little hanging over the handelbars.
Stiffen the rear compression and increase rebound on the fork should help keeping the front tire down.Could also raise the forklegs a little bit.

I dont think I would start in 2nd on this bike. Its a 4-speed and first is a pretty tall gear as it is.

You need to take some straps and compress the front forks most, if not all the way. This will help keep the front end on the ground. Also works great for street bikes.

Good Luck!

You hit the nail on the head with that one, I used to do that very same thing to my Banshee when I raced 1/8th mile and it cut my 60' from 2.1X down to 1.8X with no other changes.
