My neighbors Twin Turbo Vette

I know it not a Ford...........but it's cool to watch and he's a good friend of mine.

9.7 sec @ 142mph...........I've rode in it and thought I was going to die when he took me for a test drive down the street...... The G's it puts out feels like it's 5X's the power of my car...... He dynoes something like 715rwhp.

Darn fast for sure-probably idles and drives like a stocker too.Not a big GM fan,but I'm always impressed how easy the LS motors make power.

Re: My neighbors Twin Turbo Vette

I sure would have thought that 700 some odd HP would ET better than a measly 9.72.

But then again, I don't know the car weight, etc.

Re: My neighbors Twin Turbo Vette

There you go thinking again Mavman....... When I got to go for a ride in it one time on the street..........I thought I left my brain in the back seat. It's got some serious G's. I would think traction is still his biggest problem. But hey, 142mph in 9.7 sec in a stock bottom end motor.......is something to smile about. He's got at least 50 passes on it now.

Re: My neighbors Twin Turbo Vette

That car is awesome. My dad and my roomate both have c5 vettes.

Roomate has an 03 z06 that has headers, cold air intake, and a tune. The car makes 400rwhp. He runs 12.0 et at 120mph with a 2.2 60'

Dad has 99 ls1 with small cam, ls2 intake, headers, tune and makes about 375rwhp and is very close to the speed of the z06 with 3.73 gears and an auto.

Both cars put a big smile on my face on the highway. It seems the ls engines just make constant power and pull, pull, pull

Re: My neighbors Twin Turbo Vette

Sort of a pisser, you spend all this money on a pushrod/carb motor and the showroom cars are out there making ET/HP right out of the box. Guy down the street races vette's, C5 - chip, headers and slicks and he is in the mid to high 10's.
Saw an 07 Mustang GT on Pass Time last night in San Antonio I think, stock heads, bottom end, no spray, Ken Bell blower pushing 18-20 boost and he clocks off mid 10's on street tires - probably had the AC on listening to his IPOD with one hand on the wheel and a coke in the other.
Meanwhile I am sweating my jigglets off with no carpet, not tunes, no AC or heat and would be tickled to run low 11. BUT, mine sounds way cool and one of these days will look way cool.
I pulled up beside a guy in a new SHELBY, gray and black, pretty car - his kid nearly jumps out of the car and yells "LOOK DADDY A REAL MUSTANG". Light turned green, I sat there and let him roll off, figured I toss him a bone after that one.

I guess I'm the only grinch.... Its not a Ford. This is Ford Muscle, we all visit and view other forums, sites, YouTube, Facebook, etc. So we know the world does not revolve exclusively around Ford. So, there is some reality in your wanting to share.

Personally - I like any number of older chrysler products; I've owed more than a few non-Fords... had a 69 Road runner, 68 GTO - even a Studebaker and talk about them endlessly when it comes to bench racing at the house.
I still think non-Ford testimonials should not be posted on the site ....

(You are one of the "good guys" on the site, so it grieves me to post this message but it's how I feel about it.)

9.7 on a stock bottom end is impressive. the ford terminators have a very strong bottom end too. i know of guys who have made almost 1100hp with those things. bullitproof

Thats the wonder of computer controlled engines.

As you mention, the bar is being constantly raised with each new model year. When the Fox-body Mustangs first came out (starting from the '83, with 5-speed, 4-barrel, a decent factory cam and decent heads) ... it was on! Finally a factory car that was an honest 13 - 14 second package that was affordable. Dip into the plastic/ATM and you were only a few monthly payments away from the 12's.

Then came the Ford GT with its supercharged 5.4 liter and all the Shelby and Ford varients with all the "mod motor". Problem was, they are/were too expensive, too rare to really race. So, even though Ford has put out some fantastic, over the top rides - by the time the dealers added all the markups, it is impossible for a monthly wages kind of guy to wrap his mind around running them balls to the wall.

What is it about Ford and their "fear of flying" they seem perpetually stuck on building performance engines that are 50 to 100 cubic inches (1 or 2 liters) smaller than the competition. They are great engines, that will get the job done - but you have to roll up your sleeves and bath in 5W-30 if you want to keep up with traffic.

Still, I'd take a Real Mustang, cougar or Falcon, anyday. For me its about Hot rods - Not melted Plastic!
