Exhaust Location - '64 NASCAR Galaxie

My question is related to the exhaust location on the '64 NASCAR Galaxies.
Some of the pictures of Galaxies that year have the exhaust pipe coming out under the car, but other pictures have the pipe coming out of a hole in the rocker panel. Does anyone know why?

The reason for the location change was the always (even then) changing NASCAR rules book. The 64 H&M Galaxies that ran at Daytona in February of 1964 showed up for speedweeks with through frame exhaust dumps just like the '62s and '63s (and the '64s that ran at Riverside just two weeks before!)that had preceded them. Unfortunately, Big Bill France outlawed the practice, so teams had to hurriedly lower the exhaust and pop rivet alloy over the resulting holes. JAC
