ran into a problem~~~

Flexplate Issues.

I need a 153 tooth flexplate (original that came on my 63 Ford Galaxie - tore up from a bad starter), but all I can find 184 tooth, (from NAPA, O'reilly's, etc...)

The individual who is rebuilding my engine tried to use the original starter and had some major problems with the 184 tooth FP - even though the application states "for 390 FE". (He even tried a newer type starter, but it wouldn't diengage from the flexplate)

Now I have to come up with a 153 tooth FlexPlate and I have yet to find a source!
"Even checked EBAY"

HELP!!!!!!!!!

I'd stay with the later style starter/184 tooth flywheel. The starters and the flywheels are easier to find especially since the old type has that hard to find "bendix."
I have converted all of my early FE's to the later style starter/flywheel for this reason- eventhough I am concerned with originality.

i had a similiar problem i had the 153 tooth stick shift flywheel that is worn out and i put the 184 tooth one on with a starter from the parts store from a later model galaxie. the teeth mesh up good but i have not put it in the car yet(i've got eng/trans out right now) do you think i will have any problem by using the 184 tooth stick shift flywheel vs. the 153 tooth one
