68 galaxie parts

I'm a new owner of a 68 galaxie 4 door. All the parts places I've checked seem to skip over the 68, any ideas why? Any suggestions on where to look for interior trim parts, a neutral safety switch and a fuel sending unit?

I feel your pain. I have a 68 Galaxie XL Fastback and I know what you mean. AutoKrafters has a few pieces but skips 68 often. I just received a catalog from Mac's (more info below) they have a better selection of 68 parts, still some gaps though. Best bet is probably finding used parts cars. I've seen a few on eBay go fairly cheap. Not bad if you can get a lot of parts off one. Look at the bright side, we must have truly unique Galaxies. Good luck.

Thanks, I appreciate the help. That is a good site, but they don't have the sending unit. Not a big deal as long as I remember to keep putting gas in every couple days.

I think there is a possibility that the sending unit could be the same for 65-68. I've read on this forum that the frames for 65-68 are the same and I've seen suspension parts listed for these years under 1 part number. You would have to research it. Have you pulled your sender to look at it? My 66 Mustang had a bad one that had a visible bad spot in the coil once the cover was removed, not repairable. But, I took apart one from a friends Mustang II and discovered that only one end where the coil attached was loose. I was able to fix it and it continues to work great. Worth a shot.

Hello Serb66, I have a Ford interchange manual in front of me now. According to the info here, without a warning switch, you can use a 66 to 68 Ford, except a wagon,a 66-68 Merc except a wagon or a 67-71 T-bird. If you want the switch 65-68 Fords / Mercs are listed. I would imagine if you can find one with a switch it will work. Just don't hook it up. Part No's will be;No Switch, D0SZ 9275 D ( T-Bird ),C6AZ 9275 A Ford / Merc, C5AZ 9275 G, Ford/Merc. With a switch will be C6MY 9275 K. Try looking on Ebay. The book this came from seems to be pretty accurate.

I just went through the same thing with my 68. A nice guy in the Galaxie Forums sent me one he had no use for. Works great, though the pickup tube looks a little shorter than the original one. It's in and works great though, no big deal if I get a gallon or two less from the tank. It's part #D0SZ-9275-D.

I know for a fact that fuel sending units from a 65 are no good, as the 65 had a smaller tank and you will not get what you should out of it. 66-68 should be the same, and this part is apparently a 70.

In either case, another guy was kind enough to offer me a sending unit. He was asking $25. Give him an e-mail and let him know you would like his fuel sending unit. Name is Damon Anderson, e-mail at danderson@co.ozaukee.wi.us.

Congratulations on your purchase on one fine American car! Unfortunately '68 Galaxies (and any year after that) seem to be an underdog among the Galaxie crowd. They're d*mn good looking cars but not many people seem to like them for some reason. I've noticed that around here in the past 4 or so years that I've had my '68 Galaxie 4-door. One thing's for sure though; I won't have any trouble at all restoring my '63 Gal thank goodness.

Try http://www.dearbornclassics.com/ for some parts though. I've ordered several things from them in the past. I'd look for you but I loaned my catalog to this lady at work who has a Falcon.
You can also try http://www.obsoletefordparts.com and http://www.dennis-carpenter.com

Good luck buddy.
