bought 63 convert 289

Just bought an original 63 galaxie 500 convert with the original 289 cruise omatic. Very little rust but in need of full resto, rear quarters are solid as are floors. Color is the original champagne over 80% of car. Is this a rare color? Is the 289 common in convertibles?Any help would be great I am new to the forum

That color isn't rare but it sure seems to have been popular back then. My '63 was originally that color and there's a '63 ragtop running around Austin that's the same color. My dad's aunt had a little Falcon that was that color as well.

As far as I know the 289 engine wasn't an option in the ragtops. Or at least that's what my 1963 Ford Facts & Features Manual says. It has the '63 500XL as the only on available with the 289. All of the other Galaxies were 260's.

Thanks for getting back to me, the car is a late production July 10 63 non XL, Ivory valve covers and air cleaner. Didn't know if the color was rare due to the fact I just haven't seen that many that color. I bought it due to the body condition (20 years in a barn)as I am in the Northeast and most have frame probs or floor probs. Has anyone seen production numbers for the 289 in a non XL convert?

thanks greg, saw your 63 looks incredible, do you know any resto shops in the Doylestown/north Philly area that I should contact for paint/body work. Didn't know exactly where you are located.
