Melting Battery Terminals and No Starting

I've been having a difficult time starting my 65 Galaxie. All it does is click. I took the battery in to be tested and it was putting out the correct voltage but had 0 amps. I bought a new 700cca battery and it would still only click. I took jumper cables from the negative solenoid to a manifold bolt. That helped some as it made a much faster clicking but the engine still wouldn't turn over. I attached two jumpers to the terminal to different grounding points and then the battery wire terminal melted off the battery when I tried starting it. Any ideas of what to try next. I would really like to find out where the source of these electrical problems are.....

If I read your description correctly it sounds like you have an extremly high load on the start circuit. Will you engine turn over by hand? If it does then pull your starter and try putting the Neg. jumper cable on the mounting flange and then touch the positive to the terminal. Does the starter turn freely?
