64 500XL - 71 LTD Donor??

I recently purchased a 64 Galaxie 500 XL convertible and the 390 and trans are shot. I plan to go the 460-C6 (or other) route next spring and build a new motor over the winter.

In the meantime, my brother offered up the remainder parts off a 71-LTD donor car he has -- including the very clean 351w and FMX trans.

My questions are:

1) What mods need to be made to use the 351w and FMX in the '64 Galaxie?

2) Are the front discs brakes, caliper etc. off the 71 LTD suitable for swapping?

3) Can anyone post the mods for a generator to altenator swap or link to that info?

Also, thanks to everyone who posted info an the Crites vs Deaborn 429/460 mounts -- very usefull info for the future.

Found some of my own answers today -- online and with some help with the folks at Crites.

According to Crites all I need is the 289-351 engine mount kit they have for $45 and the FMX should bolt right in -- a perfect short term fix to get the car running fast while I work on other stuff.

All things being equal -- which they aren't in most marriages I know -- having a convertible that can get the wife and kids out for icecream on Fridays will cast an entirely different light on this project in my wife's eyes.

I'm still haven't found any info on the ALT/GEN mods or the disc brake swap of the LTD but i will keep looking and checking back here.

Use the engine harness, Alternator, regulator, etc from the 71. Try the Galaxie club for a diagram. I think I saw one there.
Even better, go to a yard and pull the Duraspark II stuff from say - a 78 Tbird w/ 351W and have a nice reliable electronic ignition too.

You will have to fabricate/get creative with the linkage for the trans.

The disk brakes are a bolt on swap but you will have to run 15inch rims with the ltd set up[img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_tup.gif[/img]
