highbeams flicker

Driving the car last night to a buddy's. While on backroads with highbeams on, I notice they will go off for a second, then come back on for a second. Does this until I switch down to regular beams and then they are steady. I have driven her a couple times and not had this happen before. It was rainy and wet on the ride home, so maybe that could be inflicting some problems in wiring? Thanks for any help. BLT

Mine did that a few times, years ago. Never could pin it down,or figure out what was wrong. I tried replacing the headlight switch, bulbs, battery, checked for shorts under the dash, everything!

I tried to write down when it happend, for me it was usually going over railroad tracks...sometimes bumpy roads, sometimes it just happened. finally just figured that the car was possesed, it got so bad I wouldn't drive it at night..even thought about selling it. took it to an electrician (auto electric shop) they couldn't figure it out either.

So, what was the solution you ask?

There is a connector from the headlights that links the headlight and ignition wiring harness in the engine compartment to a a recivever that goes through the firewall. It had some how come loose, might have bumped it when I change dhe engine or transmission...anyway, I pushed it back firmly in place and solved the problem. If I remember it right...its below the brake master cylinder between the engine and the steering shaft.

Thanks for the replys fellas. I'll look into that connector on the firewall. I just ran a aftermarket set of gauges few weeks back. Maybe messed up that connection somehow when poking around in there. If I figure it out, I'll post back. Later, Rookie.....
