What wheels will fit???

I know my '66 Galaxie is a 4.5X5 on the bolt pattern, just like a bunch of these new wheels on the '99-up Mustangs etc. Will these wheels fit?? I like the looks of a lot of those Bullitt wheels and others.

The bolt pattern matches the older cars but, most of the offsets are pretty different.....makes the wheels "stick out" sometimes....just get the wheels offset and compare them...

What kind of offset is good for Galaxie's? Neutral? + 1", -2" What? Anybody know? Again, thanks to everyone who responded.

I hope that worked, Alan put those on the car and I really think they look just as good as my Torque Thrust. Im sure the Bullitt rims would look great too but the Magnums are different, just trying to give you another idea. I like to try to be a little different. I thought thats what I was doing when I did the 65 Galaxie, and what do we have ,3 green 65s (at least) and 1 or 2 66s

Isn't it funny how just when you think you are being different you pass someone that had the same idea? Wonder if it has to do with not noticing things til we have one or drive one or something like that.

Backspace measurements need to be in the 4.5" range, depending upon the width of the wheel. The mustang wheels are in the 5.5 to 6.5" range as I recall.

I agree with FX......if you don't get the right offset even the best looking wheels will look horrible....

Offset on my 68 with a 75 linc rear is 5.5".I wanted to run the hurricane rims I have (looked sweet to me)but they pretty much ride on the fender lip.

It's tough to get things sorted out sometimes.

I think in general with these cars the front ball-joint-to-tire-sidewall clearance is going to be the biggest constraint, and will probably limit you to something around a 4.5in backspacing.

Offset and backspacing are not measured interchangeably. Offset is the distance between the wheel seating surface and the centerline of the rim. Backspacing is the distance between the wheel seating surface and the outside rear face of the rim. Rim width is measured from tire bead seat to tire bead seat.

So...you need to account for the thickness of the rim when converting from backspacing to offset. As a result, that 4.5in backspacing on an 8in rim width comes out right around 0 offset.

OEM 17x8 Mustang wheels including the Bullitt are 5.44in backspacing, the 17x9s like the '95 Cobra R style are 5.95in backspacing. Once you adjust for rim thickness these are both around +24mm offset (positive offset means the wheel is pushed INTO the fender relative to the hub mating surface.) Off the top of my head I'm not sure what the 18x9.5 '00 Cobra R wheels are.

To get from +24mm to 0 is why there's:

http://www.wheeladapters.com/

I'd advise using something with a hub pilot ring so that the wheel is hub-centric, not depending on the wheel studs to center the wheel.

Once some of the other projects are out of the way and I can get back to finishing the '64 wagon, I'm hoping for 18x8.5 and 245/45-18 in front, 18x9.5 and 275/40-18 in back.

He's right about the upper ball joint clearance in the front. I have 4.25 backspace wheels on the front and the upper control arm is close enough that the raised letters have scuffed on the arm on couple of hard turns. If my measurements are correct, the '78 tbird front disc conversion gives you a little more room (moves the hub outward slightly in relation to the a-arm)--I'll post the difference when I have the new parts on.
