Shifter

I bought my 67 Galaxie in April of 1973 it had 1 previous owner. It is a 390 4sp, manual brake and steering was completely original. My question is on the shifter. It seems to be very close to the floor, in fact you cannot shift into 2 or 4th if the seat is pulled ahead. Did the factory mess up and put a shifter in that was meant for a bucket seat car? If it is incorrect where would I find the correct one, I have never seen another in this area to compare. Thanks

Shifter

First off, sounds like a cool car!

I have often wondered that myself. Although my car is an XL with bucket/console layout, and I have replaced the factory unit with a Hurst, I have seen pics of other 4-speed cars and some of the shifters "look" different.

I have my factory shifter in a box in the shed if you wanted any measurments off of it, but like I said mine is a console car.

Don't know if that helps any?

Jim

Shifter

You have a very nice looking car, I always thought those type of wheel covers looked so right on a 65 through68 Ford. My car is not in the best shape anymore from setting outside for many years, paint and interior suffered quite a bit. I did measure the shifter, it stands straight up from the base for 5 inches then curves toward the rear for about 6 and 3/4 inches. Total overall height is 10 inches with a slight twist towards driver. Actually looks like it would be more at home in a Mustang. Thanks for the reply.
