66 Galaxie Fastback

Hey all,

I am looking at a 66 Fastback that is going to be needing some restoration parts like quarter panels and floor pans and things like that. Is there a aftermarket supplier of Galaxie parts available? Canadian or US, I don't mind...

Also what would one expect to pay for a fairly rough one. No exact price of course but a range...

Thanks,
Aaron

Repro steel body panels are pretty hard to find for Galaxies. You could try http://millsupply.com/ though for some reason they don't list '66s. As to the value, if the car is drivable but the body is rough, I wouldn't pay over $500 tops. Definitely check the frame from end to end as this is the weak link for the '65-ups. A rusty body doesn't bode well for a solid frame. Take a hammer to the frame and beat on it! Pay extra attention to the trouble areas mentioned in the "New here...got some questions" post. If the frame is soft, or has been patched, pass and look for a solid car...

Like Jan said--check the frame. If the body is rusty, chances are the frame has problems. Mid 60s galaxies used a lighter guage of steel in the frame and they are prone to rust. Keep in mind that a rusty car can be expensive to fix and it could be worth the wait to find one that is solid.

Well I went and had another look at the car. It has pretty rusty quarter panels but the frame looks pretty good. It has one so so spot on the right rear above the exhaust hanger. Should be easily repairable. The best part so far is that he only wants 500 bucks CDN! A couple more questions though...

1.How hard is it to find a rear bumper and and dash cluster(broken from someone stealing radio)?

2.Were all fastback cars 500 series cars. I don't know a ton about them but i sure like the looks of them...

Hope to hear some replies soon...

As far as the parts you are looking for you might try this guy.

www.sunmanford.net

I think they made the 500's as sedans or fastbacks not sure though

I have 2 dashes I took out of 65's. I think they are the same. I think I have a rear bumper also, but the shipping would kill you...

In '66 2dr hardtops came 4 ways: as a Galaxie 500, Galaxie 500 XL, Galaxie 7 Litre, or LTD. The XL and 7 Litre had bucket seats, console and upgraded interior/exterior trim and the 7 Litre had the 428ci engine. The LTD had a more luxurious interior and upgraded trim. There were a little over 198,000 2dr hardtop galaxie 500s produced in '66.
