Broken exhaust bolt

I have been trying to fix the exhaust on my 352 FE, I was able to remove 7 bolts without any trouble. One bolt broke off even with the head, I drilled the center out and tried to use an extractor that broke off in the the the bolt, even with the head also. What can I do now?

If you have room see if you can weld a short bolt to the material left in the hole and heat the surrounding area with a acetylene torch small heating tip. If that won't work you could put it back together minus one bolt or it's time to pull the head and take it to a machine shop.

Broken exhaust bolt

What my grandpa showed me to get rusted exhaust bolts of my 390 heads, was too put oil on the part going into the blobk let it soak and heat the out side up with a tourch and it will pull the oil threw. Worked on my heads fine only had one broken and thats because we didnt use the torch method.

They make a kind of rod for the old stick welders specifically for whats being described. It's called extractalloy, and it works fantastic. Any good welding shop should have some.

On my 65 352, I drilled out the remains of the bolt and used smaller diameter bolts through the thru holes on the heads. I use these to "RIG" the exhaust manifolds until they can be fixed correctly. This only works on thru holes. Luckily no blind holes had broken bolts in them.

Thank you for all the info, but there is just not enough material left to make a weld to. I tried to drill out the easy out but that is not working. I do not have the money or the time right now to give it the proper attention it needs because of other projects right now, I have had the car for a while and had my fun with it so if anyone is interested in a 65 Galaxie Fastback for a good price let me know at Revenant6565@yahoo.com

I feel your pain. I'm looking at the worksheet from the machine shop (from a couple years ago). Had to pay for three heli-coils at $20 a pop on my 390.
