67 Galaxie vs. LTD- same parts?

First post, want to clear up a basic question I have...

Is there a huge difference between the 67 Galaxie 2dr hardtop and the 67 LTD 2dr hardtop as far as basic parts are concerned? Is is safe to assume that most interior parts, door parts, carpet, weatherstripping, etc. is interchangeable?

I just want to make sure, since these are the "Galaxie Pages" and not many LTDs are mentioned.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Nice to hear you also have the 67 LTD. Thats what I have, I call it a Galaxie cause a lot of people don't know the diff. Anyway to answer your question all parts will fit except those concerning the rear quarter windows and the trim is different. The roofs and rear quarter panels used on the 67 LTD's are Galaxie and the factory had patch panels made to change the shape of the rear quarter windows. I know this to be true cause I could see how it was done when I pulled the vinyl off the roof. In 1966 (the first year of the LTD) the difference was badging, 1967 it was just the different rear quarter windows, die cast grill and badging, 1968 the LTD had their own body line. The 67 model was the only year for the pointed nose.
Good Luck with her!

As something of an LTD enthusiast since childhood (parents had a '67) I have the following observations. It's true that a section had to be welded in to make the quarter windows smaller, which incidentally are the same ones as for convertibles. This explains the standard vinyl roof on the 2-doors, it was easier to cover in in vinyl than metal finish the patch. This also explains why the roofs are padded. 67 LTDs, especially the 2 doors are a unique combination of firsts, onlys and lasts. It was the first year for a 4 door sedan in the line. It was the only year for a unique 2 door bodystyle shared with no other model, the only year for a standard vinyl roof on the 2-door,
the only year for unique LTD only wheel covers, and the
only year for standard Comfort-Stream ventilation. It was the last year until 1972 for a standard automatic trans,
(1968 reverted to 3 on the tree to quote a lower base price). It was the last year for a high level interior standard, which included cut pile carpet, door courtesy lights including the REAR doors on 4 doors, and the center folding rear armrest. In 1968, the standard LTD was cheapened considerably , once again to quote a lower base price. No center armrests, no Comfort-Stream, no door lamps, loop pile carpet .Barely better than a Galaxie 500 Ordering the Brougham interior restored most of the former luxury but the rear door lights on 4 doors were gone forever.Even if you did order the Brougham package, Comfort-Stream was still extra, as was a Twin-Comfort front seat. The addition of hide-away headlights was scant compensation for this, imho. Things got even worse in '69, with the mid-year deletion of the clock and full wheel covers. A standard '69 LTD amounts to little more than a Galaxie 500 with hidden headlights. And, don't get me wrong and flame me because even though I like '69s, there was a considerable quality drop that year. They rusted more quickly and assembly quality took a turn for the worse. This is empirically born out by personal experince with my parents '69 . That's why I consider the 1967 LTD 2 door hardtop to be the most desirable of the entire breed

Thanks, that was some great information. I finally got pictures of my '67 online at www.abvideo.com/67ltd

I have to agree that the '67 is definitely the best of the bunch (obviously I'm a little biased)

Is that interior original? Viny was a rare option. I see that you have Visibility Group and Deluxe Seatbelts too. Also looks like manual brakes? Anyway, nice car. I want a white one with a black top and ivy green interior like my dad's.

Wow, that is a very clean '67. All of the body panels look completely straight, no waves in them or anything. Very nice vehicle and for only $2k, that's quite a bargain!!

Alen,

That is a very sharp looking car! What size are the wheels and tires? I am looking to change mine out this fall.

Thanks,

John

Thanks guys. I take a lot of pride in it since it's my first real project (it took months of looking for the right one and even longer to convince the wife to say okay). I don't think it's as nice of most of your cars that I've seen on here, but I think it's coming along nicely. It was definitely worth the flight to Portland (sight unseen) and the three day drive home.

Still 750 miles from home on the morning of the second day, the door latch spring broke because it was so rusted out and the door wouldn't stay shut. So I drove the rest of the way with my arm out the window to keep it closed. During the day I got a terrible sunburn and at night my arm felt like an ice cube. A month later and my left arm is still a couple shades darker than my right!

The wheels are 15x6 American Racing Torq Thrust II's and the tires are 215 75 15's.
