What\'s a mint 427 worth out of a 64 Galaxie?

My dad is checking out a 427 engine with 4 speed tranny that came out of a 64 Galaxie. The engine is in mint condition and has been in storage for a long time. The guy took the engine apart prior to storing it. He wants $9k for it. I know 427's are worth a lot but are they worth that much?

Well if it has sat for a long time I would want to open it up first, if you are restoring a 64 427 Gal all numbers correct maybe it would be worth it, you can almost buy a new gensis block crossbolt 427 with all the internals and heads (with E-brock alum heads) for that much. and would be a much nicer motor that is if you are not doing a correct restore and just want the 427 motor this is just my opinion I would rather build a new motor if the price is similar.

He just wants a 427 motor to go in his 55 Ford. The guy took it apart to store it, then took a bunch of pictures of the internals prior to putting it back together.

9k seems high, but if its got the date stamps you need...

For just a run of the mill power plant, you could get a tremendous crate engine for that money.

I believe all the numbers match. He's got it stuck in his head that he has to have a 427.

9K for a 427 c.o. short block kinda steep.
9K for a 427 c.o. completely dressed (8V intake, carbs, cast iron headers, fuel log, linkage, air cleaner, etc.) with bellhousing, flywheel, and 4 speed tranny too? Good deal.

The tranny is attached to the motor with bellhousing,flywheel,etc...

engine comes with dual carbs, air cleaner, basically everything needed to just drop the engine/tranny in the car.

The only thing missing is headers.

It's a toploader.

He wants to have a set of custom headers made to fit so hopefully there won't be a clearance problem.
