Galaxie disc brake conversion information
This is an often referenced subject;
To get the full benefit of older posts on the subject, you can use the search function (find it just below the "tab line"...between FAQ and Pictures.
Use "Keywords" enter disc brakes and click on "forum" select The Galaxie pages. It's not that I don't want to write the information again, it just there is a lot of good info that people have looked up and they should at least get credit for the research. Besides, there is always more than one way to skin a cat.
When you swap a Lima engine(429 - 460 - stroker) in the early-to-mid year Galaxies...there are several kits and conversion methods. This means how high the engine sit in its mounts will vary. Plus the height of the manifold, whether or not you can find a "drop-base" air filter, then whether or not you cut the air horn....too many variables to give a 100% yes or no answer. What I can tell you is, no one has been able, that I know of, to fit a victor Jr. under a stock hood and run a full size air cleaner...tear-drop hood scoops are real popular in these here parts! The "drop-base and thin line air cleaners will compromise the air flow into the carb. I remember reading a story in one magazine...this guy picked up 20-30 horspower by installing hood scoop and full size air filter on his car, rwhp, measured at the rear wheels on a dynoJet type dyno. If you get the right setup and a manifold with carb pad no more than about 5-6in high...you just might be able to fit it under the stock hood.
