Door problem on 66 2 door hardtop

The driver side door on my 66 clunks & doesn't latch when I close it. I have to reach out the window & hold the handle latch in a bit to make it latch... not a problem in the summer. Anyone know what to adjust to fix this? I took the door panel off once a couple months ago, but was reluctant to cut the seal because I wasn't sure what to adjust.

Door problem on 66 2 door hardtop

The door on my 67 did something similar about a week ago. I would try and shut it but it would not latch. I had to carefully peel the seal back so I could see the back side of the latch. A spring was broke on it I replaced the spring and it works good as new now.

I had some similar trouble with my 64 gal. The door wouldnt shut or latch unless you slammed it. and the latch was very stiff and hard to open. in fact you couldnt open it from the inside. I thought something was broken but it turned out that some of the friction surfaces and small gears in the latch pet needed a good shot of WD 40 and some new lube. I did have to take the panel off and use a straw for the WD40 so it wouldnt go every where. A few squirts and then exercise the handle and do it again. It worked for me. Hope all goes well.

I guess either way, I'm going to have to take it back apart & dig in. Thanks guys. It will work.. just seems to be out of adjustment, I'm more inclined to think its a spring problem than just rust.. but its old... could be either or both.
