just bought a 64 2 door fast back galaxie

just bought a 1964 galaxie fastback 2 door with a 289 in car want to put 460 in what would i need to change. will drum brakes do and shocks any help would be helpful or just leave 289 in there all numbers match[img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_confused.gif[/img]

There are engine mount and header kits to put in a 460 (Crites Restoration-look on the web). You would need to change the front springs, radiator, better brakes, replace or rebuild the rear axle and suspension and make changes to all of the plumbing and linkage for the engine and trans.

Its a lot of work and there are many here who have done it. Just realize its not a simple project and many of the parts will need to be modified or fabricated to get everything to work--its not just a kit installation.

I bet you'll have a blast with the car as is. With premium unleaded at $2/gal you'll also like the 289's mpg for cruising. There would be a substantial change in mileage with the 460. What kind of shape is it in? How does it run?
