Good shocks for a \'68 Galaxie?
I just replace the shocks, and it was a cinch. Wow, I never thought my car could handle so well! Two tons of car and the thing handles like a dream! I also noticed that it stops quicker too! I can hit the brakes much harder before they lock! I always wondered why the brakes on my '68 weren't as good as those on my '67. I guess the shocks had a lot to do with it.
The old shocks were totally shot. I definitely need to get new shocks for the rear too. I'd like to replace the springs too and just get it all done, but I definitely don't have the money for that. The rear is so loose, and the front is glued to the road. I just pulled in my driveway and the front leveled right out and the back kept bouncing a bit. Ugh! I was cutting corners real sharp and quick like and the back tires kept chirping, and they squeeled around tight higher speed turns. I'm thrilled.
So how hard is it to do the rear shocks? I looked under there briefly and it looks a little tight back there between the springs, gas tank, axle, and exhaust. How do I go about replacing the rear shocks? Hopefully I'll do that next week.
I'm just gonna get the Monroe SensaTraks to match what I got up front, but I'm still curious as to why people think air shocks are so bad? Is it because they are all like mine, so weak and have awful handling?
