Dagnabbit, now I need an axle shaft....

'64 500XL, 9in rear, 28 spline, the longer of the 2 axle shafts. The one I have is so worn the wheel bearing rattles around on it...
Ideas? Opinions? Sources?

I should have one or two. . Have 2 spare 64 axles still all together. Offhand do you know which one it is? Driver or Passenger side? If you just want a stock axle I'll gladly make you a deal on one or a set.

I didn't notice they were different lengths until they were in the back of my Ranchero so I'm not sure which side is the longer of the two....
Hopefully someone on here will know & post an answer

How much we talking here?

I'll have to check & see what shipping one will cost before I can give you a price. But I'm more than fair on this stuff, I mainly like seeing it get used & am not out to make a fortune on the stuff.

Justy had a look thru a Ford Interchange book (that doesn't actually list the Galaxie) It seems that the right side is the longer shaft on every axle they listed (mustang, cougar, fairlane, torino, comet, falcon etc)
My duff axle shaft is still at the machine shop, I'll drop by there on Monday & gets the part # off it.

If you'll PM or email me your address I'll see how much it'll cost to send it out to you. Do you have any shipping preferences?

Normally axle shafts for Galaxies don't wear out where the bearing goes. Just where the seal rides. Are you sure the "Machine shop?" has the right bearing?

Yup, they did the other side just fine. I did notice that the bearing was loose on the shaft when I removed it from the axle, I could move it back & forth about 1/8 inch with no effort & the part of the shaft where the bearing sits looks well mullered (sorry, Brit word..).

Now if you didn't need a 9 inch I'd sell you a complete 8.75 out of a 64 4-dor and deliver even. LOL

Yours has a different axle to mine? I'm picking up the remnants of mine tomorrow & hoping there's a part # on it....
