So I get home this afternoon and at 3:30 I decide what the heck let me change my thermostat "how long can it take me?
Well I should have known better seeing that today was one of "those days"
First my newspaper gets soaked then our coffe machine decided to go south for the winter, My take out order of pancakes came with no butter , no syrup, and my over ez eggs were scramblerd ( YEA YEA I'll start my diet Monday!)
We were suposed to get off at noon but got off at 2:00 Went to two parts house who had no clue how to look up a thermostat for a 64 " the computer dosn't go that far back"
Ok you still have parts book right? Tell you what look it up for a 67 289. "what kind of car sir?" BLA BLA BLA.
"we dont have a 180 deg. thermostat, but we have a sale on scooters"
Found thermostat got home wife is shoping , let me knock it ou real quick. yea right.
Drain rad, remove old hose unscrew thermostat housing remove old thermostat and reverse the porcedure.I have one of those chrome thermostat housing (its pertty) but I notice that the o ring gasket is not looking good. "well it didnt leak before" Yup it didnt leak BEFORE. I used to have hair BEFORE, I didnt weigh 200 lb.s BEFORE. But......that was before. So here I sit two hours later thinking maybe I should have mowed my lawn, but it was one of those days and chances are I would have hit a rock and sent it through a window....Oh well I guess it's Miller time, SO here is my question On an O ring thermostat housing can you use a regular gasket or RTV to seal it ? please dont flame me .
